Day 3 ( Diamond Head )

Diamond Head:

Ronak:
Panoramic View of Crater

Diamond Head is one a respected and famous mountain in Hawaii that shows how sustainability and management helps the economic and religious aspects of
Diamond Head Mountain is basically a very big crater in which roads and things are built for tourism and people to look around. A path is built to go all the way to the top of the mountain to see the whole of the crater and enjoy the scenery from the top of the crater.

We took a hike to the top of the crater and it was fun at the top taking pictures and understanding the depths and features of the inside of the crater.

Surprisingly, reading from the name, Diamond Head does not have actual diamonds. The story goes something like this, when Captain James Cook was sailing, he saw something sparkle in a distant volcano and upon arriving he realised it was a whole island (Also one of the reasons it is important as Diamond Head is the reason Hawaii was discovered). Rumor has it that the goddess of the Volcano was crying due to her people fighting instead of achieving unity, and her tear is the limestone.

Shakti:

Diamond head was the main reason why Captain James Cook discovered Hawaii. When James Cook was sailing he saw something sparkling in the horizon and he headed towards that direction. As he drew closer he realised that it was the tip of Diamond Head that was sparkling. Little did he know that the sparkling was caused by green volcanic gemstones called peridot which were found near the top of the crater. James Cook thought that it was diamonds at first.

Diamond Head is the crater of an extinct volcano that existed long time ago before Oahu was fully formed. Over there I learnt that sustaining the environment can lead to many benefits. If we take care of the environment and protect it from harm it will reward us with beautiful views and a humbling feeling that makes us feel how small we are compared to the world. As we climb up to the top we can see how much nature has grown all around Diamond Head and how very little human activity ha taken place to ensure it can be climbed.

Brendon:

Diamond Head is a crater that is currently used for tourism and for people to hike up. Once up there, there is a wonderful view of the surrounding areas. This location is important as it is what Captain James Cook saw first when he discovered Hawaii. He thought that there was something sparkling was diamond but it was not, it was a green gemstone.

It is important to sustain the environment so that more people will still be able to trek up Diamond Head and look at the view. This is important as a lot of the Hawaii economy depends on tourism, so if a tourist site like this get destroyed, it will affect the tourism economy of hawaii greatly.
